Recently, we welcomed Mrs. Ukamaka Obi, the young widow from Achi, Oji River LGA, and her mother into our space for a deep session of counseling and future-planning. This was a vital moment for us to sit with her, listen to her heart, and begin the work of turning a period of immense pain into a story of lasting strength. Together with the Office of the First Lady, Enugu State; Mrs. Rita Edeh, ALGON Chairperson; and Mrs. Uche Anyaegbudike, Chairperson of Oji River LGA, we focused on understanding Mrs. Obi’s specific journey so we could determine the most meaningful ways to help her rebuild. Our goal is to move her family from a place of vulnerability to a position of total independenc  side as she finds her footing, providing the steady encouragement she needs to move forward. Our greatest wish is to see her and her children embrace a future filled with peace, security, and the knowledge that they are valued members of a community that stands firmly with them. Blog Post Intervention from a Domestic Violence Report in Amokwe March 14, 2026 12:40 pm We received a distress report of a domestic violence incident involving Mr. Ogba Maduabuchi and his wife, residents of Amaokwe in Adogbalato Autonomous Community, Awgu Local Government Area. The report indicated that the woman sustained a wound to her forehead and several visible injuries on her back following an altercation with her husband. In response to the report, together with the Office of the First Lady, Enugu State, we immediately moved to the community to intervene and assess the situation. By the time we arrived, Mr. Maduabuchi had fled the premises. However, following the intervention, he later reached out to us, explaining that he had left out of fear and requesting to report to our office. During a meeting held with him, he admitted to assaulting his wife after an argument, though he stated that he used his fists rather than a weapon. Regardless of the circumstances, we made it clear that violence of any form is unacceptable. As both parties have indicated their desire to remain in the marriage, we are currently facilitating counselling and mediation to address the issues involved while prioritising the safety and wellbeing of the wife. Mr. Maduabuchi will also be required to sign a formal undertaking committing to never resort to violence again. We commend the Chairperson of Awgu Local Government Area, Mrs Chioma Okolo, for the prompt attention given to the matter. We also appreciate the women of the community who stood by the victim and ensured that the incident was quickly brought to attention. We will continue to monitor the situation closely, support her recovery, and ensure that the commitments made are upheld, as protecting the dignity and safety of families remains central to our work. Blog Post Sensitisation programme at Uzam Community School, Amaechi Idodo January 22, 2026 11:00 am Every child deserves to feel safe—at home, in school, and within the community. But ensuring that safety doesn’t happen by chance; it requires awareness, vigilance, and action from all of us. On this basis, in partnership with the Office of the First Lady of Enugu State, we organised a sensitisation programme at Uzam Community School, Amaechi Idodo, engaging both children and teachers on the realities of child abuse and the role they play in preventing it. From the moment we arrived, the energy was high. Our Managing Director, Comr. Egodi Igwe, kicked things off with lively activities—singing, games, and conversations that encouraged the children to express their dreams. More than just fun, these moments helped set the stage for deeper discussions, reminding them of their worth and potential. The Technical Adviser on Gender Matters, Dr. Uzoamaka Okenwa Uzoechina, led a powerful conversation on child abuse—how to recognise the warning signs, why it’s important to speak up, and how teachers can step in to protect their pupils. We also tackled bullying, allowing the children to share their experiences and explore ways to create a kinder, more inclusive school environment. To keep them engaged, we organised a quiz, rewarding those who answered correctly with prizes. No child was left out—we made sure everyone had snacks and drinks, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere. The head teachers also made a commitment to be more intentional in safeguarding their pupils, reinforcing the message that protecting children is a responsibility we all share. Blog Post Recognising the vital role of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in public health and sustainable development January 22, 2026 10:50 am We took the Mobile Clinic Medical Outreach program to Awgu Local Government Area, where more than 700 residents received free medical care during a one-day outreach held at the Awgu LGA Headquarters. The outreach was organised in partnership with the Office of the First Lady, Enugu State. Throughout the day, residents were screened and treated for conditions including malaria, hypertension, diabetes, and HIV. Eye examinations and body mass index checks were also carried out, with free prescription eyeglasses distributed to those with visual impairments. Children received deworming treatment, while all participants had access to general medical consultations with qualified professionals. Health education sessions ran alongside these services, encouraging healthier habits and early detection of preventable illnesses. The medical team was led by Professor Uchenna Agu, Chairman of the Enugu State Hospital Management Board, whose leadership ensured a smooth and professional delivery of care. Dr JohnPaul Nnagbo delivered an impactful session on cervical cancer awareness and the importance of vaccination, while Nurse Philomena Asogwa provided practical insights on everyday wellness and preventive healthcare.
