WOMEN AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

Women and youth constitute more than 70% of African population. Sadly, amidst these numbers only very few contribute positively to economies in Africa. The population of women and youths in Nigeria is the biggest in Africa. Currently, about 70 percent of Nigeria is under the age of 30 and women in Nigeria were reported at 49.46 % in 2022. In Nigeria, 40.1% of people are poor according to the 2018/19 national monetary poverty line, and 63% are multidimensional poor according to the National MPI 2022. Women, youths and children are the worst hit by poverty in Nigeria. Socio-cultural norms and practices limit the accessibility to capacity building opportunities as well as numerous other opportunities that abound for women both locally and internationally.

Sustainable development is achievable through investment in human capital resources and providing women and youths with the opportunities and resources they can use to improve their welfare, professionalism and well being.

Many women and youths die from preventable causes because they aren’t the ones who make financial decisions in their families. They have to wait for the head of the household to provide money before anything is done. These and many more problems can be addressed through women and youth empowerment. Custos Care Foundation provides a multi-sector intervention approach towards the empowerment of women and youths in Enugu state with the believe that by 2030, women and youths at all levels in Enugu state will be excelling in different skills and contributing positively to the economy.
