Enugu First Lady Empowers 100 Widows in Collaboration with Custos Care Foundation

In a heartwarming initiative aimed at uplifting widows, the Office of the First Lady of Enugu State, in collaboration with the Custos Care Foundation and the Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, organised a special empowerment event for 100 selected widows.

The event, championed by the First Lady of Enugu State, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, provided a safe space for widows to connect, share their experiences, and receive much-needed support. Renowned social welfare specialist, Mrs Lillian Agbo, delivered a keynote address, sharing her personal journey and offering insights on navigating the challenges of widowhood.

A major highlight of the event was the distribution of cash tokens and food items to the widows, sparking an atmosphere of joy and gratitude. The beneficiaries, overwhelmed with emotion, expressed their appreciation through spontaneous songs, laughter, and warm embraces, creating a deeply moving scene.

Dignitaries in attendance included Mrs Chinyere Ugwu, wife of the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly; Hon. Ngozi Enih, Commissioner for Children, Gender, and Social Development; Mrs Charity Edeh, former ALGON Chairperson; and Mrs Onyinye Ejim, former Nkanu West Chairperson. Their presence underscored the commitment of government and stakeholders to empowering widows and marginalised communities.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Mbah reaffirmed her dedication to championing the welfare of widows and vulnerable groups, emphasising the importance of collective action in creating lasting change.

The initiative served as a powerful reminder of the impact of compassion and support, reinforcing the need for continued efforts to uplift those in need.
