Custos Care Foundation Takes Child Abuse Sensitisation to Primary Schools in Amaechi Idodo, Nkanu East. Recognising the urgent need to protect children from abuse and create safer learning environments, Custos Care Foundation, in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady of Enugu State, organised a sensitisation programme at Uzam Community Schools, Amaechi Idodo, Nkanu East Local Government Area. This initiative is part of the foundation’s ongoing efforts to educate children, teachers, and communities on child abuse, bullying, and the collective responsibility to safeguard young lives. Comr. Egodi Igwe, Managing Director of Custos Care Foundation, set the tone with interactive activities that went beyond traditional learning. Through singing, games, and engaging discussions, the children were encouraged to express their dreams, creating an open and supportive atmosphere. Following this, Dr. Uzoamaka Okenwa Uzoechina, Technical Adviser on Gender Matters, led an eye-opening discussion on child abuse. She spoke about recognising the warning signs, the importance of speaking up, and how teachers and caregivers can play a vital role in protecting children. The conversation extended to bullying, with pupils sharing their personal experiences and brainstorming ways to create a more inclusive and supportive school environment. To ensure that key lessons were reinforced, a quiz competition was organised, where students who answered correctly were rewarded with prizes. But beyond learning, every child was made to feel valued, with snacks and refreshments provided for all. As the programme concluded, school authorities pledged to be more intentional about safeguarding their pupils. This commitment aligns with Custos Care Foundation’s broader mission, which continues to drive meaningful conversations and practical solutions to protect children across Enugu State.
